1. Grandfather clocks!
They are expensive, pretty, fragile and sometimes very old. That’s a recipe for disaster. Unless you know what you are doing, moving one could end badly. One slip and it could end up shattered into hundreds of pieces.
2. Pool tables!
Unless it is a cheap one you got from Walmart, hire a pro. They will disassemble and probably even crate the slate. And once you are moved they will come and reassemble and even level it for you.
3. Large safes!
Florida man crushed by safe. That’s no joke. It really happens. Look at your safe. Does it look like it could kill you? Call a pro. Bonus tip: empty the safe for a lighter load.
4. Pianos
Especially Grands and Baby Grands. They will need the legs and pedals removed and then strapped to a piano board. A pro will handle that for you as well as tune it once it is setup in your new home.
5. Exercise equipment!
Treadmills can be several hundred pounds. Got a bowflex or something similar? It probably won’t fit thru the doorway. Things need to be disassembled and reassembled as well. Call a pro.
6,7,8. Large art, mirrors and chandeliers
Huge and/or expensive pieces need to be crated to survive a move. A pro will build a wooden crate specifically to fit your pieces. If the piece is not going to be used right away in your new home, the crate is perfect for storage anyway.
Moving yourself is a great way to save money but sometimes you need professionals.
